The Anaheim Congregation has for several years been an Outreach Partner of Outreach International. We have supported the Haiti Primary Schools Program which is focused on literacy and child survival in 92 communities throughout Haiti. For 2007, the congregation has committed to provide $1000 in support of this ongoing project.
Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Maternal and infant mortality rates are among the highest in the world, and malnutrition rates are also very high. Illiteracy stands at over 50%. Outreach International's Literacy and Child Survival programs support 93 schools serving 9,700 students. Without this support, these students would likely not receive any formal education. Helping children become literate and have an educational grounding contributes to the success of future generations.
