Our Congregation's Heritage

The Anaheim congregation was started on November 13, 1955, in a rented hall. Two years later, in May, 1957, the congregation purchased a two-story residence that was renovated for use by the congregation. The first worship service took place there near the end of July. Nine years later, in the fall of 1965, the congregation approved the preliminary plans and drawing for constructing a new church building on the property. This was begun in January 1966 and completed that fall. The new church was consecrated on November 22, 1966.  This facility has continued to serve the needs of the congregation up to the present time.

The congregation's heritage is more than just the story of a building. Many lives have been changed in worship experiences and through other church ministries. Early on, the congregation established adult and children's church school classes, a nursery, junior church, a youth group, and a women's group. From time to time, the congregation has invited the community to share in Christmas and Easter celebrations. And the congregation has shared generously in support of several community and even international charitable endeavors. At present, the congregation actively supports H.O.P.E. Charities, a local charity supporting needy families, Outreach International in its Primary Schools Program, and, beginning next year, Abraham House, the first L'Arche community in Southern California. In the past few months, the congregation has also chosen to share the church facilities with the The Basileia Congregation of the Community of Christ and with Iglesia Familia Christiana de Anaheim (The Christian Family church of Anaheim), an independent, Spanish speaking congregation.

As we look to 2007, we hope to grow as disciples of Jesus Christ and to find additional ways to worship with and serve others, both in our neighborhood and the Anaheim community, and in places in other parts of the world, such as our support of the Haiti schools.  We are a people on a mission--to "proclaim Jesus Christ and promote communities of love, hope, joy, and peace." We welcome you to share in this adventure with us.
